Second Trimester Essentials

Hi Friends! I took a much needed break from the blog to move into our new home. Now that we have been settling in, I am excited to be back with some blog content. In this post I am going to share my experience and all the essentials that helped me get through the second trimester.

1st trimester vs 2nd trimester: During the first trimester I had days where I had struggles of having energy, compared to second trimester where I had more energy for sure. However, my morning sickness kicked into high gear during the 2nd trimester. There were days that it was so bad that I would spend most of the day nervous of being super sick and even had to call my doctor because of extreme dehydration and there was a concern of preterm labor. But after focusing on hydration and eating a ton of carbs, I got through it!

Essentials That Helped

Below I am sharing the essentials that helped me get through this trimester. I have linked everything for your reference incase you are interested in getting something that might help you.

As I mentioned earlier, my morning sickness progressively got worse. So these Morning Sickness Sweets came in handy during those moments I wasn’t home. Along with the morning sickness sweets I had Ginger Ale handy, I reached for those many times during the trimester.

Hydration is very important in general but especially when you are pregnant. I found myself needing a little bit more help, which is where this Bottle came in handy. The bottle has time indicators that help you know how much to drink by a certain time. If you are having a hard time keeping hydrated, I suggest giving this bottle a try.

Around 20 weeks, many recommend getting a Pregnancy Pillow to help with sleeping on your side instead on your back. This article shares more information about why it is important to side sleep. Along with the proper sleeping position, sleeping as much as possible helped. Although it wasn’t as much sleep as I would have liked, every little bit helped.

During the second trimester I finished up the last of the prenatal vitamins I was taking and was searching for something I could take less times a day. After much doing much research I decided on the Ritual prenatal vitamins as they had the best ingredients that was responsibly sourced that I was confident in taking.

Goldfish Crackers helped get through the early mornings when I wasn’t feeling well. Saltines are a great option as well, however I ate so many during the first trimester that I needed to switch things up a bit this time around. My favorite was original cheddar flavor.

On the days that my morning sickness was horrible, Brandon would put together some Ginger Tea. Here is a recipe that can help. There are many ways to make this, I found that I like it better with lemon but you might like it with honey instead. Try a few out and see what works best for you.

Last but not least, Bio-Oil. I was very bad about using this in my first trimester but since then have been much better. As the belly has been growing I have wanted to ensure I do whatever I could to reduce the amount of stretch marks. In all honestly, I feel like the oil can only help but ultimately it is your genetics that determine if you end up with stretch marks.

I truly can’t believe how quickly this pregnancy is going and we are so close to meeting this little boy. I hope this post helps you get through your pregnancy journey. If you are having a tough day, hang in there. It will get better!
