Postpartum Essentials

Hi Friends! it has been a while since I have written a blog post. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw the little announcement that our baby boy is here. We have been a bit busy with the little one. It’s been a wild ride having a newborn, but I wanted to take sometime to share all the postpartum essentials that got me through the first few weeks.

After delivery the hospital does provide you with items to help you with your recovery such as a peri bottle, witch hazel pads, and pads. Before I went in for delivery I bought some items that will help even more based on what I had heard. Now that I am through the rough few weeks I am sharing all the items that helped me. I hope this helps you if you are pregnant and trying to plan ahead for your recovery or if you are a mama who is in the thick of it looking for some help.

During my third trimester while I was prepping for labor I did quite a bit of research on all things I would need for postpartum and what other mamas found helpful. One of the most talked about must haves was the Frida mom postpartum recovery kit! Now that I have had the chance to use it I know why. The kit provides you all the essentials you need instead of purchasing all the items below you could purchase it all in one kit. The Ice Maxi Pads were a game changer. It helped with the pain so much that I had to order more.

These nursing pads are great when your milk is coming in and all through out breast feeding. Trust me, you are going to need them because no one ever tells you that your breasts leak. Along with the nursing pads, I highly recommend these therapy packs. They can be used either hot or cold and help with breast pain when engorgement happens or you get a clogged duct.

If you decided to purchase only one thing for your recovery, I would highly recommend the Frida mom peri bottle. The hospital does provide you a peri bottle, however this one is much better because it has the longer nozzle. The nozzle makes a huge difference.

At the hospital they provide you with maxi pads for your recovery while you are in the hospital, I don’t mind using pads however I found the always discreet underwear much more comfortable. It stayed in place which is very difficult when you are using a maxi pad without wings. While researching, I came across these witch hazel tucks that came in handy. They noticeably made a huge difference. Keep in mind if you get the Frida mom kit it comes with these as well.

I have mentioned the Earth mama nipple butter in past posts. If you are breastfeeding this is a must, but in my opinion it is must even if you are pumping. A lovely nurse at the hospital recommended me to use it to help with the pain and it has helped with the dry skin that occurs. It is made with safe ingredients therefore safe for baby as well.

The last item I used during recovery was Dermoplast. This is known to help people and it worked for me for a bit, however after a bit I felt that it wasn’t helping me. When it stopped working for me I switched to the one that came in the frida mom kit (perineal healing foam) which helped more than Dermoplast for me.

Those are all the items I used to help me get through the first few weeks of recovery. I hope you find this post helpful for your recovery journey. Our bodies are incredible in all that it can do and you will heal, it just takes time so be patient and go at your own pace. Xo!
